October 27, 2009 - Education ICT specialist New Era IT has furthered its expansion into the tertiary sector by winning the IT Support Services contract for UCOL, the government funded Institute of Technology with campuses in Palmerston North, Wanganui, and Wairarapa.
UCOL joins the University of Auckland as New Era IT’s second tertiary education client in what Director of Tertiary Services, Mike Willing, says will be a growing area for the company.
“Universities and other tertiary providers are facing the same budget squeezes as other areas of education and ICT is viewed as a major cost-centre where savings and efficiencies can be made,” he says. “New Era IT’s expansion into the tertiary education market is a natural progression from the work we are doing with 950 primary and secondary schools across New Zealand. We have the capacity and skill set to scale our offerings to large campuses while still being able to offer a cost-competitive option for remote campuses or small rural schools.”
“UCOL’s RFP called for a more flexible and innovative approach to IT support that would lower its total cost of ownership,” says Willing. “In winning the RFP we were able to demonstrate exactly that. As specialists in the education sector we have developed a cost effective partnership model which gives our clients a high degree of comfort that their IT systems are being well managed and provides headroom for expansion without major costs attached.”
“Education is a particularly rewarding area of technology to be working in and we look forward to being able to make a positive impact on the learning delivery at UCOL and other tertiary institutions,” says Willing.
